Man Charged with Making False Report of Armed Robbery in Ferndale
(Ferndale Police Report, Dec. 4, 2014)
FALSE REPORT OF ARMED ROBBERY
On 11/28/14 (Friday morning after Thanksgiving), Ferndale Police responded to a report of an armed robbery involving a gun. Officers met with a man (Marc COX) in Hazel Park on Goulson near the I-75 service drive. COX claimed that he was just robbed outside of a building near the industrial area of Ferndale near Ardmore and Wanda streets. Cox said that he made arrangements to meet a man at the business at 6:00 a.m. to pick up some insulation he was buying. He is a builder who got money from a customer to buy materials for materials to build his house. He said his son drove him to the business and dropped him off. Reportedly another worker of Cox’s was going to meet him there at 6:00 a.m. with a truck and trailer to haul the material. He said after he was dropped off, a man with a pistol approached him and stole several thousand dollars from him. Cox claimed that he then ran after the man and chased him to Goulson (several blocks) where the robber jumped into the passenger side of a waiting getaway car and escaped. Cox said he was having medical problems spurred on by the incident and was taken to the hospital.
Cox’s story did not seem credible to the officers, but he insisted he was telling the truth. Officers investigated and found Cox to be lying. His son had not dropped him off, and the man he said was going to meet him with a trailer said there were no such plans. The insulation business was closed on Friday. Cox admitted to lying about the details of the robbery, but still insisted that he was robbed by a man who he owed money to for gambling debts. When police tried to meet with Cox to get more details of his claims, he avoided officers and lied about his whereabouts. Officers tracked him down and arrested him for making a false felony report.
Defendant: Marc Avery Cox, w/m, 01/17/63, Harrison Twp. resident.
He is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow afternoon.
