Birmingham Man Admits “Tagging” in Downtown Ferndale

GRAFFITI DAMAGE:
On 12/03/14 at about 1:30 in the morning, Ferndale police responded to Sneakers Bar on Woodward after receiving information that a man had spray painted graffiti on buildings, dumpsters, and a truck. A person witnessed the vandal after he did his damage go into the bar and order a drink. The witness told the bartender who phoned the police and pointed the suspect out to the arriving officer. When the officer asked the man (Scott STRYE) if he had painted graffiti, he admitted he had. He claimed to be an “artist”. The man had used spray paint cans on his person and was arrested.
Defendant: Scott Strye, w/m, 5/17/86, Birmingham resident
Styre is currently on probation for three other offenses including a Felony Malicious Destruction of Property conviction. He faces the following charges and was arraigned by Magistrate Brennon who set bond at $15,000 cash/surety in this case.
COUNT 1
did willfully and maliciously destroy or injure a 2009 Isuzu truck, the personal property of Aaron’s Rental, and the amount of the destruction or injury was $200.00 or more but less than $1,000.00; contrary to MCL 750.377a(1)(c)(i). [750.377A1C1]
SECOND OR SUBSEQUENT OFFENSE NOTICE
And it further appearing that on August 21, 2014, said defendant was previously convicted of committing or attempting to commit
Malicious Destruction of Personal Property over $1,000.00 in 6th Circuit Court, Oakland County; Therefore, the offense set forth above is alleged to be a second or subsequent offense; Contrary to the statute in such case made and provided and against the peace and dignity of the People of the State of Michigan. MCL 750.377a(1)(b)(ii); MSA 28.609(1)(1)(b)(ii). [750.377A1B2].
FELONY: 5 years and/or $10,000.00, or 3 times the value of the property stolen, whichever is greater.

COUNT 2 did willfully and maliciously destroy or injure a building or its appurtenances, located at 22638 Woodward Avenue, that belonged to
Sneakers Bar & Grille, and the amount of destruction or injury was $200.00 or more but less than $1,000.00; Contrary to the statute in such case made and provided and against the peace and dignity of the People of the State of Michigan.

MISDEMEANOR: 1 year and/or $2,000.00, or 3 times the amount of destruction or injury, whichever is greater.
