One Suicide Discovered, and Another Prevented

INCIDENT: 07:56 hrs. –Nov. 27 – Commerce Township – Death Investigation / Suicide #14-187412
SUMMARY: The Sheriff’s Office Operations Center received a call from the Novi Police Department advising that they had located a deceased subject hanging by the neck from a tree in the [address removed by oc115.com], Commerce Twp. with an extension ladder next to him. The subject was reported as a missing suicidal person earlier in the morning to Novi P.D. and they had been looking for him since 0200 hours. The subject was pronounced deceased on scene via telemetry by a doctor.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: An OCSO Detective /Sergeant and Investigator from the Medical Examiner’s Office responded to assist in the investigation. The ME’s Office took custody of the deceased for autopsy. The next of kin was notified. The investigation continues in cooperation with Novi PD.
DECEASED INFORMATION: 23 year old male, resident of City of Novi.

INCIDENT: 02:35 hrs. – Nov. 28 – Oxford Township – Suicidal Subject w/Shotgun #14-187715
SUMMARY: Deputies were dispatched to [address removed by oc115.com] for a suicidal subject. Per the caller, her husband had a shotgun and had put it in his mouth wanting to commit suicide. The caller also advised that she had left the house and locked herself in the attached garage. The caller was able to retrieve both of their children.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The caller was advised by dispatch to get her and children into the vehicle in the garage and leave. Deputies were able to locate the subject in the back yard near the family shed. The subject was kneeling down had the shotgun and was asking deputies to shoot him. Deputies were able to talk the subject into putting the weapon down and cooperating with them. Deputies took custody of the subject and the shotgun. The subject had been committed for psychiatric help the previous week. The subject was transported to Crittenton Hospital for a psychiatric commitment and additional evaluation.
SUBJECT INFORMATION: 35 year old male, resident of Oxford Twp.

~Insomnia or excessive sleeping
~Social isolation and withdrawal
~Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
Risk Factors:
~Previous suicide attempt(s)
~Depression or other mental illness
~Substance use
~Family history of suicide
~Physical illness and /or chronic pain
