 NOTE: This story has been updated from a previous version.  Earlier we reported that the victim was a fellow hunter.  Subsequent media reports confirmed that the victim was a woman walking a dog, and not a fellow hunter.  We apologize for this error.

INCIDENT: 14:41 Hrs. – Nov 25 – Oakland Township. – Hunting Accident/Accidental Shooting #14-186444


SUMMARY: Deputies responded along with the Oakland Township Fire Department on a report of an accidental shooting in the area of Stoney Creek and Harmon Rd. in the Bald Mountain Recreation area. A hunter and his brother were deer hunting saw a deer running. The hunter lost sight of the deer and then 934_8600_Gen-Online_Banners2heard movement in the area. The hunter discharged two rounds of buckshot from his shotgun. The victim, who was walking in the area with a friend, was struck in the hip.


OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The brother of the responsible rendered aid until the Oakland Twp. Fire Department arrived on scene. The victim was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac and is listed in good condition with non-life threatening injuries. A Detective responded and both hunters were transported to the Oakland Township Substation to be interviewed. An Officer from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources was notified and responded to assist in the investigation. The responsible hunter was subsequently released and the DNR will be handling any further investigation.


VICTIM INFORMATION: 34 yr. old resident of Oakland Twp.

RESPONSIBLE INFORMATION: 64 yr. old resident of Massachusetts.
