“Alex from Target” to Visit Royal Oak, $20 for a Picture, Nov. 29

Alex from Target will be at Emagine Theater in Royal Oak on Nov. 29 to meet adoring fans. Alex is famous after a teenage girl took a picture of him bagging groceries at a Target in Dallas and posted it to Twitter with the hashtag #alexfromtarget. Alex has appeared on Ellen and several major news outlets have covered his rise to fame.
Business Insider reports that Alex and his family have been receiving death threats, that their personal information has been leaked online, and that fame has been a lot of pressure for the young man.
Target, the large retail chain, denies having anything to do with Alex’s rise to internet fame. Business Insider and others have speculated it to be a marketing ploy, with Business Insider noting that Ellen Degeneres has staged such stunts before and that the connection between Alex and Degeneres “suggests a carefully planned, exclusive agreement between the two.”
In spite of the pressure, Alex is making the rounds across the country to greet fans, sign autographs, and get pictures. The event in Royal Oak is free, but those wishing to meet Alex and get a selfie will need to pay $20.
