The Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce and Oak Park Alliance Celebrated some of the community’s favorite businesses at their annual awards gala on Nov. 13. Held in the new Twist Night Club, the event featured several tables of auction items and artwork made by local students. The Langley Traines Quartet provided lovely background music as guests enjoyed strolling appetizers including stuffed mushrooms and pumpkin bread pudding.
Dean Back of Dino’s Lounge and M-Brew won the Business of the Year Award. Michigan Youth Arts won for New Business of the Year. Jack Aronson of Garden Fresh Gourmet won the Special Service Award. Best of Ferndale was a tie between Rust Belt Market and Ferndale Friends. Best of Oak Park went to Tai Fai Restaurant. And the Volunteer of the year was Rita Van Keymeulen of Creative Office Designs.
In addition to recognizing award winners, the gala served as the launch of “The Artist in You,” a project in collaboration with Ferndale High School to introduce the Art Mural Project. Two students from the Sophomore, Junior and Senior classes will be picked to have their art displayed on the outside of various buildings in Ferndale for the year. The first place winners will receive a $500 scholarship.
