Veteran’s Day Observances in Oakland County

The City of Birmingham and the Piety Hill Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will host the traditional laying of the wreath on Nov. 11 at the Civil War and WWII Monuments in Shain Park, across from Birmingham City hall as 151 Martin Street. The ceremony begins at 11am and features bag pipes and a guest speaker. More info at http://www.bhamgov.org/.
November 11 at 11 am Memorial Mall on Livernois South of 9 Mile, ceremony with special guest and cookies and coffee afterward at the fire station.
The VFW will host Highland’s Veterans Ceremony on Tuesday, November 11th. The Ceremony will be at 9:00am in Veterans Park, downtown Highland. More info at http://www.highlandtwp.com/index.html.

2. Novi Salute to Veterans Gala – Nov. 16 at Suburban Collection – This year marks the Chapter’s 11th year hosting the Salute to Veterans Gala which will be taking place on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Suburban Collection. Keynote speaker will be Nick Koulchar, who entered the U.S. Army November 2006 as a Combat Engineer. He was a Gunner performing Counter Improvised Explosive Device (CIED) Route Clearance duties in Sadr City, Iraq during the Siege of Sadr City in 2008. On August 26, 2008,Koulchar’s truck was hit by an EFP IED (Explosively Formed Penetrator Improvised Explosive Device).The EFP punctured the side of the truck and struck his lower body causing catastrophic damage. He spent 2 weeks in a coma before awaking at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and continued to receive surgeries and therapy over the next 2 and a half years. The Royal Oak Memorial Society invites everyone to attend the Veteran’s Day Ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 11:00am to honor our veterans who have given us our freedom. The Troy Veterans Memorial Committee hosts their annual Troy Veterans Day Ceremony at Troy Veterans Plaza, in front of City Hall (500 W Big Beaver), Sunday, November 11 at 11 am. The program will include the Raising of Colors and the Laying of the Memorial Wreath on the Veterans Monument by honorary guests. Music will be provided by the Heritage Concert Band of Troy.
