Bomb Squad Called for Suspicious Briefcase at Congressman Bentivolio’s Officeessential

INCIDENT: 13:50 Hrs. – Oct 31 – Suspicious Package/OCSO Bomb K9 Assist/MSP Bomb Squad Activation. #14-172643.
SUMMARY: Deputies were dispatched to 800 Welch Rd., the District Office of Congressman Kerry Bentivolio. for a suspicious package. The Congressman advised that when they returned from lunch they discovered an unattended briefcase in the foyer area. It was reported that multiple people had sidebar01sponsorcome and gone from the office throughout the day and that nobody was aware of who the briefcase belonged to. There have been no reported threats against the Congressman. The building was evacuated as a precaution.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:   An OCSO Explosives K9 was requested to respond and check the building. The K9 alerted on the briefcase and a Bomb Squad was requested from the Michigan State Police. Upon an inspection of the briefcase by the Bomb Squad the case was determined to be safe. It was later determined the case had been inadvertently left by an individual with no malicious intent. The occupants of the building were allowed to return to their activities.Candlewickshop_May2014
