Ferndale Library Encourages Donors: “Make Your Mark”

The Ferndale Library has an invitation for local business leaders: Make Your Mark!
The library encourages members of the business community to adopt programs and prominent areas of the library and be recognized as supportive partners. Credit Union One has already proudly partnered with the library at a Platinum level, with a plaque placed at the entrance to the busy computer lab: “…Generously Sponsored by Credit Union One.”
“Several hundred people walk through our doors each day, and they definitely notice when a business steps up and supports the library,” says Library Director Jessica Keyser.
Both the Woodward Avenue Brewers and Allied Printing have also recently joined as supporters in the campaign. “We are proud to be the Platinum Sponsor of the Make Your Mark Campaign for the Ferndale Public Library,” said John Kozich, Credit Union ONE Vice President of Community Relations. “The Credit Union ONE Computer Lab at the library is a great way for us to support and stay connected with the community.
“We believe this is a great opportunity for businesses to elevate their profile in the community,” Kesyer said. “We are very grateful to Credit Union One, Allied, and the WAB for their support, and we are hopeful that other leaders in the community will join them.”
Silver, Gold and Platinum level sponsorships (for five- year commitments) are available. With the Library’s Make Your Mark campaign, businesses become active fortifiers of one of Ferndale’s most well-respected, highly-utilized institutions. Potential library sponsors will make a difference in the community by aiding the library’s overarching mission: to provide access to materials and services that inform, enrich, entertain and empower.
Businesses can also sponsor special programs, including Summer Reading for kids, Ferndale Reads, Start Here Saturdays, and the Summer Concert Series.
Make Your Mark aims to mitigate recent funding losses from property tax revenues, which have been declining every year since 2009. “The library’s annual tax revenues are over $300,000 less than they were in 2009,” says Keyser. “Ninety percent of our revenue comes from local property taxes. We’re hoping that partnering with local businesses will enable us to diversify our income and become more financially sustainable.” Make Your Mark also advances the goals of FPL’s Strategic Plan: improvement of service, expansion of staff engagement with patrons and amplifying the impact of its special programming.
