Oakland County Recognizes Sheryl Mitchell as She Heads to Albionctechad
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 8, 2014)
County Commissioner Mattie McKinney Hatchett credits Dr. Sheryl L. Mitchell with making her experience as a newly elected board member a manageable one, years ago. “I didn’t know if I was going left or going right, but Sheryl would set me straight,” Hatchett royal_servicessaid. Dr. Mitchell was unanimously honored with a proclamation by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday for her years of service.
Dr. Mitchell has worked for the Board since 1997, first as an Administrative Analyst, then moving up to Senior Administrative Analyst. In that position, she did an incredible amount of work that enabled Commissioners to digest complex issues, manage projects, understand budgets, stay informed, and connect with constituents. She was a liaison to County administration, elected officials, organizations and the media, worked to develop and implement procedures, prepare reports and do financial analysis.  She also put her seed019_Cherie_Rolfepassion to work helping on issues like jail over-crowding, services for the aging, and employment diversity.
Dr.Mitchell is now moving on to serve as the City Manager for Albion, Michigan, a college town located north of Lansing.   “I am grateful that the City of Albion saw me as somebody with passion and vision and to bring the community together,” Dr. Mitchell said.
The proclamation declared Mitchell an “exceptional professional who demonstrated talent and leadership.” Board Chairperson Mike Gingell joined Hatchett in presenting the proclamation, thanking Dr. Mitchell for “17 years of putting up with us.”
