Attempted Suicide Stopped by Theater Employee in Rochester Hills

INCIDENT: 23:49 Hrs. Oct.3 – City of Rochester Hills – Attempted Suicide.   #14-157080
SUMMARY: Deputies responded to the “Emagine Theater” in Rochester Hills:

to investigate a suicide attempt that had just taken place outside of the building. According to the caller, a female was outside of the theater, lying on the ground, unconscious, with wounds to her wrist in a pool of blood. The caller, is an employee who found the victim on the ground on the north side of the building trying to further slit her wrists and he took a large knife away from her.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: Deputies responded to the scene with the Rochester Hills Fire Department and located the female lying on the ground on the north side of the building. The female was conscious but was bleeding from several wounds on her left wrist/arm. Her boyfriend indicated she had a history of heroin addiction, and had relapsed earlier in the day.  While speaking with Deputies and Fire Personnel the female made several suicidal statements. The female was subsequently transported to Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills for an mental health evaluation and further medical treatment.  She will survive her self-inflicted wounds.
VICTIM, SUSPECT or ARRESTEE INFORMATION:  21 year old female resident of Troy.

SUICIDE PREVENTION:
“Suicide is a major public health issue, but it is preventable,” said George Miller, Director of Oakland County Department of Health and Human Services in a previous article. “It is important for everyone to recognize the warning signs and risk factors for suicide to prevent the loss of lives.”
Warning Signs:
~Talking about, or making plans to die
~Talking about “ending the pain”
~Persistently feeling sad, lonely or “empty”
~Insomnia or excessive sleeping
~Social isolation and withdrawal
~Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
Risk Factors:
~Previous suicide attempt(s)
~Depression or other mental illness
~Substance use
~Family history of suicide
~Physical illness and /or chronic pain
If you or someone you know is in crisis, do not leave the person alone and do not isolate yourself.  Call your doctor, 911, go to a hospital emergency room for immediate help, or ask someone to help you.  The phone number for Common Ground’s 24-hour Crisis and Resource Helpline is 800-231-1127 and is available 24 hours a day.
