Ferndale Police Detective Brendan Moore won the Comerica Home of the Brave National Anthem Contest, earning the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at Saturday’s Detroit Tiger’s game. There’s also a $10,000 grant from Comerica Cares that will be given to the police department.
Police Chief Timothy Collins said that he has no idea what the money will be used for, but that officers will waterworkcome up with some ideas and let Detective Moore make the final call.
“Thank you to all my family and friends who work so hard and bothered so many other people. You guys really worked hard. The Ferndale Police thanks you. Everyone of you has been a real trooper,” Detective Moore said in a Facebook Post following the official announcement. “I do thank you from the bottom of my heart. This will be a great experience for me. I also want to say that I think Lane Meurer would have done a great job. Being a veteran myself I thank her for her service and am proud she is one of US. Lane you have a wonderful support system, and they should be proud of you!” Sgt. Meuer was a close second place in the competition.
Votes were collected through the Comerica Cares Facebook, which still features video of Moore’s winning rendition. He also sang before the City Council meeting Monday night. https://www.facebook.com/ComericaCares/app_403834839671843.
