Volunteer Day to Coordinate Park Clean Ups in Pontiac, Oct. 4
(Minister Kathalee James, Sept. 17, 2014)
Here is the information about our 2014 Hands4Detroit Volunteer Day, which is Saturday, October 4, 2014 in partnership with the United Methodist Churches of Metropolitan Detroit.
This is the second year that Hands4Detriot has partnered with our organization. Last year we put over 100 volunteers in seven Pontiac Parks. This year we have refined the projects to get the most benefit for our community parks. Last year the paint stores in our community gave us paint to spruce up our parks but the weather and volunteer numbers did not cooperate! This year we want to focus on the sprucing up because that will last year round. Volunteers will be asked to paint and spread fresh mulch in the playscape areas.
We are targeting Beaudette Park and Aaron Perry Park in the City of Pontiac.
Volunteers who want to help should go through the hands4detroit website or call me, Minister Kathalee James @ 248-425-4663. or drop me a note on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/FriendsOfThePontiacParksAssociation.
Friends of the Pontiac Parks is a small local community group, started in October 2012 and dedicated to improving the quality of life for Pontiac families by advocacy and promoting activities that improve and enhance our city parks. The State finance Manager has sold almost everything in the city of Pontiac except for our beautiful local parks. Having safe, clean, green spaces for children to play and where families can connect is essential to the economic development and health of any community.
We have seen a tremendous improvement in the interest and concern for the parks as well as increased utilization by families and community groups but we have a long way to go.
Many of our playscapes are in need of new mulch, slides are cracked and in need of repair, some are old and need to be replaced. We’re looking for any opportunities we can to help make these parks better for the families.
