Sweetness and Strength at
Downtown Clawson Block Party (video)
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept. 14, 2014)
Family fun came in multiple flavors at the Downtown Clawson Block Party on Saturday. Dozens of Clawsonites picnicked in the closed-off section of Main Street, enjoying food from local restaurants and playing games for kids and adults.
New this year was the feat of strength, the fire truck pull. No one could beat the team of R Collective Salon, led by brothers Scott and Tony Raymaker who pulled a Clawson Firetruck by rope 20 feet in less than 13 seconds.
Rounds of kids and adults competed in a pretty sweet contest as well, the race to devour a watermelon slice down to the core. With one hand behind their backs, the hungry competitors had to dig in without lifting the rind from the table. The contest was sponsored by the Clawson Rotary Club.
Other activities included sidewalk chalk drawing, bounce houses for the kids, an ice cream truck and dancing.
