Ferndale Public Library has developed a reputation as a valuable resource for area musicians and music lovers, curating an impressively eclectic (and locally-centric) CD collection while continuing to host monthly concerts after hours in its Community Room.
But with the lingering effects of the 2008 recession having taken its toll on the operating budget of FPL, the waterworkstaff have sought creative ways to raise funds to maintain quality of services after regrettably significant reductions in hours.
Thankfully, musicians know how much libraries matter! So it didn’t take long for Ferndale Public Library to book a Benefit Show at the Loving Touch with an exceptional line up of local talent; when the call went out, each musician was equally eager to support this hallowed institution in its time of need.
Alternative hip-hop quartet Cold Men Young, disco-twisting indie-pop force Johnny Headband, ferocious-dance-rock outfit Odd Hours and ambient soul swooners Sleepless Inn will perform Fri. Sep. 26 at the Loving Touch. Doors will open at 8 PM with a suggested donation of $5.
“This is totally humbling,” said FPL Circulation Specialist Jeff Milo, who organized the event. “I know we hostrobert wittenberg election 2014 ad a lot of bands here and we provide a lot of technical books and CDs and what-not for local musicians to check-out; I know we’re already like The Rock n’ Roll Library. But, still, it’s so encouraging to then see those same local musicians we serve come back to help us like this…”
“Community is important, books are important,” said Johnny Headband singer/keyboardist Chad Thompson. “Ideas, libraries, learning, thinking, all of it! It’s absolutely worth preserving!”
FPL knows how much this city loves live music and it encourages everyone to come enjoy an excellent and wide-ranging line-up. All proceeds go to benefit The Ferndale Library.
