Oak Park Mourns Loss of Officer Kevin Bur, Who Died in Motorcycle Crash
(Compiled, Sept. 9, 2014)
Oak Park Public Safety Officer Kevin Bur was off duty on Sept. 8 when he lost control on Bernstein Road in Commerce Township and was thrown from his motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet and died from his injuries.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Officer Kevin Burr. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. This is a huge loss for the City of Oak Park.”
Oak Park resident Christine Melkonian shared her recent meeting with Officer Bur. “One month ago a lost dog wandered to my home. Officer Bur came to tell me the owner was coming over to pick up the dog. He spent one hour talking to me and a friend of mine that happened to come over. He was the former owner of Scooplicious in Oak Park on 9 Mile. Officer Bur remembered him so he stayed outside where we were talking. He was the nicest person and so kind,” Melkonian said. “He left while waiting for that person to come pick up her dog. She finally came three hour later, and Officer Bur came by again, making sure she picked the dog up. I never saw an officer so concerned and kind. I never thought that would be the last time I’d see him. We take life for granted. Live every minute and be kind to one another. You never know when it will be the last time we see each other again!”
