Oakland County Health Division has Back to School Vaccinations
(OCHD Press Release, Aug. 29, 2014)
The 2014 school year is fast approaching – which means back-to-school shopping, a back-to-school sleep schedule, and yes – back-to-school vaccinations.
The Oakland County Health Division offers immunizations for individuals of all ages at their offices in Pontiac and Southfield – and is urging families to get vaccinated as soon as possible. These vaccines can help to save your child’s life; the Health Division offers immunizations for 14 different diseases – from chicken pox, to pertussis, and many more.
“Vaccines have greatly reduced and even eliminated many diseases that killed or severely disabled people just a few generations ago,” Kathy Forzley, manager/health officer of the Oakland County Health Division said in a press release. “Vaccinations allow parents to trust that diseases of today will no longer be around to harm their children in the future. But we are seeing an increase in some diseases that we have not seen in years because of not fully vaccinating or vaccinating on an alternative schedule.”
Unsure of which vaccines your child should be getting? Not a problem – the Health Division has access to Michigan’s vaccine records database, where they can determine which vaccine each child needs to be current.
Both the Pontiac and Southfield offices are walk-in clinics, meaning that no appointments are necessary. However, it is requested that those seeking immunizations arrive 30 minutes before the close of business to ensure that the full array of services and testing options are available.
The Pontiac office is located at 200 N. Telegraph Road, Building 34 East (map available HERE), and the Southfield office is located at 27725 Greenfield Road in Southfield (map available HERE). Cash, credit cards, insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare are accepted – you can view the immunization cost schedule HERE. The Health Division participates in the Vaccine For Children program, which provides free vaccines for children that are not covered by insurance. Both offices operate under the same hours:
Mondays from 12pm – 8pm
Tuesdays – Fridays from 8:30am – 5pm
