Medical Examiner Determines Death of Man Pushed at Concert is Homicide

The Oakland County Medical Examiner ruled today that the death of Mr. Robert Kobe at the DTE Music Theatre in Independence Township a Homicide. Kobe suffered a serious blow to the head when he was pushed at the Hank Williams Jr. concert on Aug. 17. The 55-year-old Westland resident died on Aug. 19 from his injuries.
Kobe’s son has spoken to several media outlets in hopes that the 15 year old who is being investigated will not be charged. The suspect is a friend of his. The son, who was not at the concert, says it was an accident in an interview with Fox 2.
“Additional interviews with witnesses are scheduled and ongoing. Once Sheriff’s Detectives complete their investigation, which should be by the end of next week, they will present their findings to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review,” stated the most recent update from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.
The original report stated “Deputies assigned to DTE for the Hank Williams Jr. Concert responded to an assault that occurred in the concourse area. Upon arrival Deputies found a 55 yr. old male subject laying on the ground in a pool of blood and bleeding from his head. Witnesses indicated the male victim was pushed once by another subject and hit his head on the concrete when he fell. After the incident the suspect tried to leave but was detained by the witnesses until the Deputies arrived.
“There were several witnesses to this incident and all were able to identify the suspect who pushed the victim down. The suspect was identified as a 15 year old male. The juvenile suspect was detained and he and his father were transported to the Independence Twp. Substation to be interviewed. A Detective and an Evidence Technician responded to assist in the investigation. The victim was transported priority one to McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac and is in critical condition. He may not survive according to doctors. The juvenile suspect was lodged in Oakland County Children’s Village pending a review by the Prosecutor’s Office.”
