Five Year Old Boy Rescued Before Man Shot Self in Front of Police in Rochester Hills

SUMMARY:
Deputies responded to suspicious vehicle behind a house on the 1400 block of John R. Once they arrived on scene, they observed a black Ford Taurus in the lot behind the house.  When deputies approached the vehicle, it left at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle left south on John R. and deputies pursued with lights and sirens activated. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle and terminated the pursuit.
The vehicle was located a short time later in the area John R. and South Blvd. near Enfield.  When deputies approached the vehicle, they observed the driver with a gun in his lap.  When he rolled down the window, he raised the gun to his head.

OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:   
Deputies talked with the subject for an approximately a hour in an attempted to have the subject put down the weapon.  The subject discharged his weapon resulting in his death.  Prior to the shooting deputies were able to remove a 5 year old boy who had been in the vehicle with the subject.  Investigators a currently trying to identify the boy and his relationship to the subject.
