DIY Festival Could Be Back on for Sept 12- 14gallowaycollens1
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Aug. 3, 2014)
Pending event planning approval, the DIY Festival will be scheduled for Sept. 12-14.
In the spring, DIY 2014 was cancelled due to upcoming large scale road improvements. The construction plans did not work out due to bidding coming back higher than expected for the E. 9 Mile construction project, so the creators of the DIY Festival are now rushing to organize an event for September.
“Now that the construction plans have been postponed, we declare DIY GAME ON,” said Chris and Krista tJohnston in a press release.
“We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support for this event. We would like to thank the thousands who wrote, called and spoke up in support of continuing the event, regardless of its size or location. We are happy to announce that we will be able to continue on with this Ferndale tradition in its regular location in Fabulous Ferndale– where the dream began.”
The Johnstons own The Woodward Avenue Brewers, The Emory, and The Loving Touch. They also put on the DIY Festival and Pig and Whiskey Festival each year, events which draw thousands into Downtown Ferndale.
DIY focuses on local artists and local bands. Information will be up on their website soon for those who want to get involved. http://diystreetfair.com.seed029_keyser_family
