7 Month Old Pontiac Baby Burned by Hot Bath Water

UPDATE: Later reports from the Sheriff’s Department list the child as being 2 years old. The child has also since died from an infection as a result of the burns.
INCIDENT: 22:45 Hrs. –July 26 – City of Pontiac – Child Neglect Investigation. # 14-116299
SUMMARY: Deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of S. Sanford for a report of a child that was burned in a bathtub. While en route it was reported that the child was being transported by the family to St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital. The child’s mother stated that her 17 year old niece was babysitting several of her children. The niece stated that she started to draw a bath for the child when she was distracted and a 3 year old child entered the bathroom and turned up the hot water dial.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The child was transported from St. Joseph’s to Detroit Receiving Hospital in critical condition with 2nd degree burns on the lower half of her body. Detectives responded and interviewed the mother and the babysitter. Child Protective Services was notified.
