Pleasant Ridge Comerica Robbed and Other Crime

Interim Police Chief Kevin Nowak of the Pleasant Ridge Police gave an update on recent crime in the city:
On July 15 a resident was cutting their grass in the front yard when, Nowak said, “someone went in the back door and stole items, including jewelry. In that case we have recovered some of the jewelry and we have a suspect, we are just waiting for the approval of the warrant.”
On July 17 Comerica Bank was robbed, with the suspect still at large. “We believe that is the work of a serial bank robber who has done twelve of them,” Nowak said. “Because of it being a serial bank robber, the FBI is investigating.
Only July 21 a resident saw a man going through her vehicle in the driveway on Maplefield. When she yelled at the man to put back whatever he had taken, the man pulled out a knife. He then fled on a red bicycle, taking her loose change from the vehicle with him.
On July 22 a resident on Millington woke to find that someone had entered their unlocked garage and stolen their snow blower, saw, drill and other tools. The culprit had also removed screens from the windows. “The family had a dog, but with the air conditioner running they never heard anything,” Nowak said. He said the theft happened between 2 and 4 am.
Nowak said that residents “should not be afraid or feel unsafe, but they should be aware.” He suggested that residents lock the doors of their homes, garages and vehicles. He said that alarm systems, motion-activated lights, and alarm system signs can be deterrents. He said that if residents are not home, they might consider leaving lights or a television or radio on so it appears they are, and have someone park in the driveway at times if they are gone for an extended period. “This is a safe community,” he said. “It’s the kind of place where people leave their doors unlocked, and criminals will look for that.”
The Interim Police Chief also said that residents should not always believe everything they read on Facebook, stating that sometimes gossip can cause unnecessary worry or false information being spread.
