Suicide in Independence Township

 INCIDENT: 15:42 hrs. July 15, 2014– Independence Township –  Death Investigation   #14-109558
SUMMARY: Deputies responded to the 8800 block of Hunters Creek Ct. in Independence Township for a 911 hang up. While en-route to the residence deputies were advised the caller had called back and stated her husband had shot himself in the head. When deputies arrived they observed a subject with a single gunshot wound to the head. The wife of the deceased stated they had been arguing during the day before the deceased left the residence. She stated when her husband came home he produced a hand gun and shot himself in the head without saying anything to her.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  ADetective responded to investigate further. The Oakland County Medical Examiner Office responded and took custody of the body and an autopsy is pending.  
VICTIM INFORMATION: (Deceased): 55 yr. old resident of Independence Township.

SUICIDE PREVENTION:
“Suicide is a major public health issue, but it is preventable,” said George Miller, Director of Oakland County Department of Health and Human Services in a previous article. “It is important for everyone to recognize the warning signs and risk factors for suicide to prevent the loss of lives.”
Warning Signs:
~Talking about, or making plans to die
~Talking about “ending the pain”
~Persistently feeling sad, lonely or “empty”
~Insomnia or excessive sleeping
~Social isolation and withdrawal
~Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
Risk Factors:
~Previous suicide attempt(s)
~Depression or other mental illness
~Substance use
~Family history of suicide
~Physical illness and /or chronic pain
