Killer of Ferndale Senior Citizen Pleas Down, Gets 40-60 Year Sentence (video)
(Crystal A. Proxmire, July 10, 2014)
Thirty-seven year old William Thomas Goad was sentenced to 40-60 years in prison for strangling and stabbing an elderly Ferndale man in January. He was originally charged with open murder in the case, but in May he pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of second-degree murder.
Oakland Circuit Judge Phyllis McMillen issued the sentence. Goad also pleaded guilty to various other crimes, and those sentences will be served concurrently.
The Oakland Press reported the details of the sentencing in their July 10, 2014 article at http://www.theoaklandpress.com/general-news/20140710/man-sentenced-to-40-to-60-years-in-ferndale-residents-death.
Goad had befriended the elderly victim, who was a resident at Devon Square Apartments near Orchard Street and Hilton. Surveillance video showed the men coming and going together, and then Goad coming and going alone, taking items from the apartment and using the victim’s car.
The oc115 was at the Ferndale Police Station when the suspect was captured and brought in. The video below is of the press conference the day Goad was arrested.
