Home Invasion
3000 block of N. Altadena, 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect entered his residence and damaged a flat screen television and miscellaneous property in his bedroom. There was nothing stolen and no signs of forced entry. It appears the suspect entered through an unlocked window. 14-20962
Larceny from Automobile
3601 W. Thirteen Mile (William Beaumont Hospital), 6-25-14 – 6-28-14, 6:00 p.m. – 4:00
p.m.: Complainant reported her vehicle was parked in a parking lot near the Emergency Entrance. When she returned to her vehicle she discovered an unknown suspect entered her unlocked car and stole prescription medication, a laptop computer, and a cell phone.

2400 Block of Parmenter, 6-26-14, 8:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect took multiple lawn tools from his front porch. 14-20677
1000 Block of E Fourteen Mile, 6-27-14, 3:39 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect stole two (2) lawn & leaf blowers from his trailer. The suspect is described as a wm with brown hair and a goatee driving an older green mini-van, possibly a Plymouth Voyager or Ford Windstar. 14-20568
1500 Block of Maryland Club Drive, 6-27-14, 6:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect entered his open garage and stole a bicycle.

30991 Woodward (Kroger), 6-28-14, 12:45 p.m.: Complainant reported setting her purse down in the store. When she returned to retrieve it, she discovered an unknown suspect had stolen it. 14-20684
700 Block of E. Second, 6-29-14 – 6-30-14, 7:45 p.m. – 9:00 a.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect entered her open detached garage and stole her blue bicycle from the garage. 14-20892
Main Street and Second Street, 7-2-14, 10:00 a.m.: Complainant reported he parked his blue 26” Huffy bicycle at the corner and went into a business. While he was in the business an unknown suspect stole his bicycle. A witness observed a white male 5’10” – 6’1”, thin build with bushy hair, wearing blue jeans steal the bicycle. 14-21196

Normandy & Delemere, (CN Railroad) 6-25-14 – 6-26-14, 9:11 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.: A resident called to report an unknown suspect had spray painted the CN Railroad viaduct with graffiti.

1700 Block of Dallas, 6-24-14 – 6-25-14, 11:00 p.m. – 10:30 a.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect “keyed” her vehicle while it was parked in her driveway. 14-20313
2700 Block of Rochester, 6-26-14 – 6-27-14, 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 a.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect threw an object at her parked vehicle which smashed the windshield of her vehicle. 14-20539
Vinsetta & Marais (Marais Park) 6-29-14, 12:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.: Officers were called to the park for two trees which had been illegally cut down by an unknown suspect. 14-20811
1415 N Stephenson Highway (St Dennis School) 6-28-14, 10:03 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect(s) broke four (4) windows on the west side of the school. A witness saw several teenagers in the area get into a white Jeep Cherokee and leave the area northbound on Edgeworth. 14-20751

4400 Block of Rosewold, 6-25-14, 1:09 a.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect threw eggs at her home and wrote obscene words in shaving cream on her driveway.

28300 Woodward (Seville Motel), 6-30-14, 2:31a.m.: Officers conducted a motel check and located two subjects with outstanding warrants. One subject was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant and the other subject was arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

30776 Woodward (Sagamore Motel), 6-29-14, 11:51 p.m.: Officers conducted a motel check and located a subject with an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The subject was arrested without incident. 14-20855
1400 block of E. Lincoln, 7-1-14, 9:54 a.m.: Officers conducted a sex offender registry compliance check. During the check officers determined the subject was in violation of the sex offender registry requirements. He was arrested without incident. 14-21023
Criminal Activity – The Royal Oak Police Department is investigating a Larceny that occurred in the 1100 block of Cherokee. A Royal Oak resident called the police department on July 1, 2014 at 2:27 p.m. to report a larceny. The resident stated two (2) subjects arrived at his residence claiming they were Water Department employees and needed to check the water meter.
Before the homeowner could respond, the subjects entered the home. One of the subjects immediately went to the basement with the homeowner while the second subject was left unattended upstairs. After briefly checking the basement both subjects left the home abruptly. They got into a newer, black SUV or mini-van and left the area in an unknown direction.
After they left, the homeowner contacted the Water Department and learned the subjects were not Water Department employees. He checked his residence and discovered an undisclosed amount of currency was missing from a dresser drawer in his bedroom and reported the crime.
Suspect #1 was described as a white male, 5’6”, late 30’s, short straight black hair, and heavy set.
Suspect #2 was described as a black male with a medium complexion, 6’ 0”, mid 30’s, and heavy set. He was wearing a blue t-shirt with an unknown design on the front and blue/gray pants or jeans.
A similar incident was reported on July 1, 2014 at 5:21 p.m. in the 4200 block of Seminole. In this incident a white male in his late 40’s, wearing a blue plaid shirt came to the door claiming to be from the Water Department. The homeowner did not open the door and yelled to her son to come downstairs. By the time her son came downstairs the suspect left the area in an unknown direction.

Armed Robbery – The Royal Oak Police Department responded to an Armed Robbery of the Speedway Gas Station located at 1620 East Twelve Mile Road. On June 29, 2014, at 3:21 p.m., an employee called 911 to report the Armed Robbery. The employee stated a shirtless white male produced a large kitchen style butcher knife and demanded money from the register. The employee’s locked themselves in a back office and called 911. The suspect fled the store before obtaining any money or merchandise.
Officers quickly responded to the scene, set up a perimeter, and began a K-9 track. Further investigation developed during the investigation lead officers to a home in the 1700 block of
N. Altadena. The suspect was located at the residence and positively identified as the suspect who committed the crime. The suspect, 54-year-old Royal Oak resident, Matthew Robert Bainter was arrested for Armed Robbery without incident. No one was injured during this incident.
Mathew Bainter was charged with one (1) count of Armed Robbery, which carries up to a life sentence.
On Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 12:00 p.m., Bainter was arraigned by the Honorable Judge
Meinecke from the 44th District. His bond was set at $250,000.00. His next scheduled court date is set for July, 11th, 2014 in the 44th District Court before the presiding Judge.
Matthew Bainter has prior convictions for Felony Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property, two (2) counts of Felony Larceny in a Building, and Felony Use of a Stolen Financial Transaction Device.
