Knife-Wielding Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested in Royal Oak
(Royal Oak Police, July 1, 2014)
The Royal Oak Police Department responded to an Armed Robbery of the Speedway Gas Station located at 1620 East 12 Mile Road. On June 29, 2014, at 3:21 p.m., an employee called 911 to report the Armed Robbery. The employee stated a shirtless white male produced a large kitchen style butcher knife and demanded money from the register. The employee’s locked themselves in a back office and called 911. The suspect fled the store before obtaining any money or merchandise.
Officers quickly responded to the scene, set up a perimeter, and began a K-9 track. Further investigation developed during the investigation lead officers to a home in 1700 block of N. Altadena. The suspect was located at the residence and positively identified as the suspect who committed the crime. The suspect, 54-year-old Royal Oak resident, Matthew Robert Bainter was arrested for Armed Robbery without incident. No one was injured during this incident.
Mathew Bainter was charged with one (1) count of Armed Robbery, which carries up to a life sentence.
On Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 12:00 p.m., Bainter was arraigned by the Honorable Judge Meinecke from the 44th District. His bond was set at $250,000.00. His next scheduled court date is set for July, 11th, 2014 in the 44th District Court before the presiding Judge.
Matthew Bainter has prior convictions for Felony Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property, two (2) counts of Felony Larceny in a Building, and Felony Use of a Stolen Financial Transaction Device.
