Suicide in Independence Township

INCIDENT:  8:45 hrs. – Independence Township- Death Investigation / Suicide by Firearm   #14-086360.
SUMMARY:  At approximately 8:45 am June 8 deputies were dispatched to a home on the 6600 Block of Shelly Dr. for a family trouble.  The caller stated the ex-husband was parked in the driveway of her residence.  
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  Upon arrival the subject was found in the driveway of that residence behind the driver seat of his still running pickup truck.  It was readily apparent that he was deceased by an apparent self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.  Detectives from the sub-station responded to the scene along with the on duty forensic lab specialist who assisted with processing the scene. The Oakland County Medical Examiner also responded and  took custody of the deceased pending an autopsy.
VICTIM, SUSPECT or ARRESTEE  INFORMATION:  (Deceased):43 yr. old male resident of Waterford Township.

SUICIDE PREVENTION:
“Suicide is a major public health issue, but it is preventable,” said George Miller, Director of Oakland County Department of Health and Human Services in a previous article. “It is important for everyone to recognize the warning signs and risk factors for suicide to prevent the loss of lives.”
Warning Signs:
~Talking about, or making plans to die
~Talking about “ending the pain”
~Persistently feeling sad, lonely or “empty”
~Insomnia or excessive sleeping
~Social isolation and withdrawal
~Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
Risk Factors:
~Previous suicide attempt(s)
~Depression or other mental illness
~Substance use
~Family history of suicide
~Physical illness and /or chronic pain
