After 46 Years, Clawson Middle School Principal John Dickerson Announces Retirement

Clawson Middle School Principal John Dickinson announced his retirement, effective at the end of June. John has been a member of the Clawson Public Schools since 1968 when he began his career teaching English at Clawson Junior High School.
Dickinson Served the District for 46 Years.
“His quiet dignity and leadership will be missed,” said Superintendent Monique Beels.
“John has accomplished many of the goals he set out to tackle at Clawson Middle School and is leaving us with a culture based on respect and collaboration.”
In the past two years, Clawson Middle School has stepped up support for struggling students with support classes in reading and math. “Our scores reflect that focus on student achievement, and our kids are succeeding,” said Beels. “In addition, we have added instructional coaches to support teachers as they work to improve their craft. John’s leadership was instrumental in getting these endeavors off the ground and running so well for kids and teachers.”
During his career in Clawson, he taught English at both Clawson Junior High and Clawson High School. With 26 years of teaching experience, he was appointed Secondary Assistant Principal for both the middle and high schools in 1994 and was named principal of Clawson Middle School in 1996.
Professionally, John is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals, Oakland County Curriculum Council, and National Council of Teachers of English.
Dickinson earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University with a major in English and minor in Political Science. He received a Master of Arts Degree in English and an Education Specialist Degree from Oakland University.
His interests include theatre, cross-country skiing, travel, piano, and choral singing. He has been an active member of a number of local community theater groups since1969. His theatrical activities include musical directing, acting, backstage work, and theater administration.
