Two young men were honored Monday by the Royal Oak Police for their heroism. Each was presented with a ROPD Citizen Award before the City Commission.
Dugan Fernandez, 18, prevented a tragedy when he spotted a 17-year-old girl standing atop a five-story building on 13 Mile Road on Feb. 25. He called 911 and talked to the girl to calm her down until police could arrive.
Austin Sturm, 20, witnessed an accident between two vehicles on 11 Mile on March 15. He immediately stopped to help. When he noticed the driver of one of the vehicles trying to flee, he gave chase on foot and tackled the man and returned him to the scene of the crash.
