Pleasant Ridge Residents Invited to Meet City Manager Candidates April 11, Interviews April 12
(Crystal A. Proxmire, April 6, 2014)
Though City officials do not yet know who the candidates will be, they are inviting Pleasant Ridge residents out for a meet and greet with those who will be interviewing for City Manager.
The event will be held at the Pleasant Ridge Community Center at 7 P.M. on Friday, April 11, with refreshments being served. The candidates will be interviewed on Saturday, April 12 at Pleasant Ridge City Hall starting at 1 P.M. The names will not be released until all of the scheduling is complete.
Pleasant Ridge embarked on a nation-wide search through the Michigan Municipal League, who posted a job description on their website and other places. “The ideal candidate must also possess the leadership skills to inspire and motivate staff, elected officials, and other stakeholders, and promote collaboration between city officials and residents. Comfort with being easily accessible to residents is a key attribute. The candidate must have demonstrated experience in both visioning and strategic planning, intergovernmental relations, grant management, planning and economic development, personnel and labor relations, budget and finance, and a proven track record of successful community engagement,” the ad states. It also listed a salary range of between $75,000-$95,000 plus benefits.
The MML screened candidates and will be presenting the best five to proceed with the interview process. “The meet and greet is specifically designed to introduce the candidates to Pleasant Ridge and introduce PR to the candidates,” Mayor Kurt Metzger said. “We want them to get a feel of the city that cannot be gained through web searching and research. I have spoken to other City Managers who have had similar experiences and felt they were helpful in understanding resident issues. We also want the residents to have an opportunity to meet the candidates in a social setting and get a feel for the individuals. We will have each candidate provide a brief introduction but no formal presentation will be expected. The Commission also wants to see how the candidates interact with residents.”
Candidates will also have an opportunity to get a feel for the city by attending the Pancake Brunch and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday the 12th before the interviews.
“This is a very important step for Pleasant Ridge as we begin to create a new vision for the city and its place on Woodward and in the larger region,” Metzger said.
The position became available after Former City Manager Sherry Ball announced her retirement in July. Currently longtime Assistant City Manager Scott Pietrzak is serving as the Acting City Manager.
