(City of Ferndale Press Release, March 27, 2014)
The City of Ferndale has re-launched www.ferndalemi.gov as a responsive website, giving residents and visitors a more user-oriented experience. Responsive web design deploys a technique that adjusts the website’s content to fit the screen size of the device it is being viewed on, making the content as easy to read and navigate on any smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. “The website has become an important HowesLocationcommunications tool for our community,” said Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter. “I encourage you to check out the site on your smart phone or tablet. This redesign allows us to better organize and present valuable information, creating a more transparent city government.”
Website analytics show that approximately 35% of the city’s current website traffic stems from mobile devices, an increase of 10% since July, 2013. Chief Innovation Officer (CINO) Joseph Gacioch commented, “Responsive Design is about delivering services to tomorrow’s citizen. 61% of our website traffic is from users between the ages of 18-34.” Gacioch added, “Now more than ever people seek accessibility to information when they want to, how they want to, and where they want to, and it is incumbent upon government service providers to design programs that meet these terms.”
The redesign also features a cleaner more navigable news section and tweaked improvements in the sites primary search function. The website was designed by Artemis Technologies of Lansing, Michigan.
