Currently in its 13th year, Everyone’s Reading is a community-wide reading sponsored by 12 public libraries, including the Berkley Public Library, to promote dialogue through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. The program is taking place now and concludes in April with two appearances by Chris Bohjalian, the critically acclaimed author of 17 literary fiction books, including nine New York Times bestsellers.

Before You Know Kindness is a complex and multilayered page-turner that adeptly explores the animal moderntaxrights movement and gun control, putting a personal face on these deeply controversial issues. The story follows three generations of the Seton family and their experiences following a tragic accident that tests their values and relationships.

The Berkley Public Library will host a book discussion on the book on Tuesday, April 22 at 12:30 pm.

Chris Bohjalian will make two appearances to speak about Before You Know Kindness and his experiences as a writer on Wednesday, April 30.  He’ll speak at The Community House in Birmingham at 2 p.m. and at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield at 7 p.m.  Due to popular demand, a ticket will be required for bridget and kevin deegan krause thank youauthor appearances.  Berkley residents can pick up free tickets at the Adult reference desk.
