Go! Comedy is Go! Business at Ferndale DDA’s FernNet March 26DDAsample01

(Ferndale DDA Press Release March 20, 2014)

He unexpectedly licks his phone in the commercial for Hungry Howie’s. He’s a happy dad, driving a cool car in a TV ad for one of the Big 3.  Wednesday thru Sunday nights, every week of the year, he’s on stage at the place he and his daring partners started five years ago — Go! Comedy in Downtown Ferndale.  In a business where timing is everything, the humor emporium’s timing couldn’t have been worse —  starting Street-Eatzz-Adright about the time the economy stopped and forcing P.J. Jacokes and his partners to get serious about their business.

With the insights that helped him persevere thru the tough times, and armed with the information he now teaches at Go U! The Improv Academy, Jacokes will be the lesson teller for the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority’s monthly FernNet B2B Networking meeting, set for 9 am, Wednesday, March 26 at the theatre at 261 East Nine Mile Rd.   As it turns out the business of Go! Comedy goes way beyond generating laughter.

Besides the company’s rotating schedule of nightly shows — “What does Fox News Say,” “The Sunday Buffet” or “The All Star Showdown” — Go! has turned some of its attention, and that of its audience, to an unexpected variety of business support services.

Team building, leadership, listening and communication are among the workshops Go! offers in-house or takes on the road to businesses in need.   The Go! experts know that the tenets of improv often parallel nicholas-schrock-allstatethe ingredients of being solid in business.  By using what they teach to developing improvisers, the Go! team helps businesses owners and employers learn how to be better listeners, cooperate with each other, feel more comfortable on the sales floor and succeed, with a bonus of enjoying life.

“We use hilarious improv games to teach people how to be a crucial part of the team. Learn to cooperate and create together and have a great time doing it,” according to the Go! website.

This sidebar01reader_supportWednesday morning, Jacokes will be up early, teaching FernNet attendees something about using “Improv to Improve.”   There may or may not be a few laughs, but there will be definitely be plenty of lessons for emerging entrepreneurs or even seasoned business owners. FREE coffee, donuts and camaraderie rounds out the session.

FernNet is organized by the BizDev Committee of the Ferndale DDA. Please visit DowntownFerndale.com for additional information about future FernNet programs.  On tap for April 30, Heather Coleman-Voss of Michigan Works and “The Resources They Provide.”

The Ferndale DDA manages and markets Downtown Ferndale, a district of approximately 350 businesses located over 3.9 linear miles, intersecting at the iconic Woodward Avenue & Nine Mile Rd.
