A car stuck on the railroad tracks at E. 9 Mile Road near Hilton caused Ferndale Police to block westbound traffic for about half an hour Friday night. At approximately 7:30 P.M. a man who said he is from dinos02sidelogo3Farmington Hills turned onto the tracks from E. 9 Mile Road, stating “I guess I was paying more attention to my GPS than to where I was going.”
The man declined giving his name, stating he was “shaken up and embarrassed.” He said he was in Ferndale visiting and that he’d not been there before.
Police contacted the railroad to alert any incoming trains, and they blocked traffic while a tow truck pulled the vehicle to safety. It appeared undamaged and the man, who looked to be in his 20s, was able to drive it away.
“The police were very cool about it, courteous,” the driver said. “They gave me a ticket and let me go.”
