Clawson Youth Assistance Seeks Business Support for Camp Scholarships

For many years, Clawson Youth Assistance has sent children from low-income families in Clawson to summer camp. We sponsor older children to an overnight camp for a one-week session, and younger children to day camp for two weeks. Camp, with its new activities, enriching experiences, and new friends, has proved to be life-changing for some young people. It also provides a perspective shift for children who may be exposed for the first time to families who live differently than their own.
In 2013 we were able to do the following:
- We sent two young women to the amazing Tim Horton’s Camp in Nova Scotia
- 4 children attended Clawson’s “Fun in the Sun” day camp for two weeks
- 11 young people attended Camp Copneconic, a YMCA resident camp in Fenton
- 1 young woman attended spring Hill Camp for one week
The market cost of these camperships would be $10,938, but with the help of scholarships, partnerships, and discounts negotiated with the camps, we were able to provide all of these adventures for $3950.
We would love to send more kids off on their own summer adventures. Certainly, there are many low-income children who would benefit from the enrichment and social experiences camp has to offer.
Would you please consider becoming part of our camp program? Would you donate $300 to send a child to sleep-away camp for a week, or $200 for two weeks of day camp?
Because we are a volunteer program, every cent you donate will be applied directly to camp tuition. Your name will be on flyers and literature associated with the program. If you cannot sponsor the whole amount, would you please consider a donation of any amount?
