Gunplay Turns Deadly in Independence Twp.nicholas-schrock-allstate

INCIDENT:  21:00 hrs. Feb. 23– Independence Township Accidental Shooting / Forensic Lab Assist   #14-027600.
SUMMARY: Deputies along with Independence Township Fire Department to an address in the 4400 block of Pinedale on a report of a gunshot victim. The live in girlfriend was performing CPR upon arrival of deputies. Deputies and FD took over CPR.  
The live in girlfriend stated the victim had been drinking most of the day. He began instructing her on how to use his 3 handguns and demonstrating how safe they were when they are empty.  Subject did this sidebar016growby placing the handguns against his head and pulling the trigger.  After doing this twice the subject was demonstrating a third handgun when the gun discharged striking the subject in the head.
  The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene via telemetry by a doctor at Genesis Hospital. There were three children (12, 10, and 7) present in the home at the time of the incident.  The children were not injured nor did they witness the shooting and they were not the biological children of the deceased.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:    A detective, OCSO Forensic Lab and an investigator from the Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene. The Medical Examiner took custody of the deceased pending an autopsy.  Alcohol appears to have been a factor in this incident and the investigation continues.
UPDATE: The death has been ruled a suicide.
