Charity shows at local bars are one of the ways that the grown-ups of Ferndale teach the youngsters about civic responsibility and community love.  Among the neighborhood favorites are 3d Invisible, Jawbone and The Grateful Dads, made up of parents who sometimes keep their kids up at night while they bang on drums in the basement, or rehearse passionately in their garages.
And when they get together to share their mad music skills, they do it to raise money for charity.  Often they rock to help school-related projects, but on Feb. 22 they performed in the “Three Bands for sidebar01reader_supportFernCare” show at The New Way Bar. Over 100 people came out, with a $5 cover charge and a plastic barrel adding up the dollars that will be used to provide free health care services for low income people without insurance at the neighborhood’s free medical clinic.
Kate Baker, who does Development for the FernCare Board, thanked the bands for coming out and announced future fundraiser for the clinic.  The Winter Warm Up takes place on March 6, and the Annual Dinner takes place March 8.  Baker was joined by several Board members who helped pass the donation barrel, including Treasurer Steele Lindbloom, Clinic Team Chair Pamela Bellaver and Brian Wahl of the Clinic Team, and volunteer Linda Baker.
