Rochester Hills Suicide Reported

INCIDENT:  06:43 hrs. Feb. 12 – Rochester Hills- Adult Suicide – #14-021492
SUMMARY: Deputies responded to a welfare check at an address in the [removed by editor] . The caller stated she and her husband were to go to court today to finalize a divorce. Additional information is that her husband had sent her a text about 4:30 AM this morning stating he was going to kill himself.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:    Upon arrival deputies entered the residence and discovered the subject deceased via suicide. An intravenous bag was found attached to the wall with a needle in his arm containing a unknown substance. A detective responded to the scene and the Oakland County Medical Examiner was notified and took custody of the deceased pending an autopsy.
VICTIM, SUSPECT or ARRESTEE INFORMATION: (Victim) – 57 year old male resident of Rochester Hills.

SUICIDE PREVENTION:
“Suicide is a major public health issue, but it is preventable,” said George Miller, Director of Oakland County Department of Health and Human Services in a previous article. “It is important for everyone to recognize the warning signs and risk factors for suicide to prevent the loss of lives.”
Warning Signs:
~Talking about, or making plans to die
~Talking about “ending the pain”
~Persistently feeling sad, lonely or “empty”
~Insomnia or excessive sleeping
~Social isolation and withdrawal
~Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
Risk Factors:
~Previous suicide attempt(s)
~Depression or other mental illness
~Substance use
~Family history of suicide
~Physical illness and /or chronic pain
