28 Year-Old-Waterford Woman at Gun Range Dies of Suicide

INCIDENT: 12:34 hrs. Feb. 4 – Independence Township -Suicide #14-017382
SUMMARY: Deputies responded to an address in the 6500 block of Dixie Highway near Maple (Accurate Gun Range) for an adult suicide. Information is a subject was firing at the range and shot herself in the head.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: Upon arrival deputies discovered the victim lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head. Information from the employees is that the victim had purchased three boxes of 9mm ammunition and was practicing on the range with a rented gun. They stated they later that when they checked on her she was found on the floor. A detective was on scene and reviewing the range surveillance camera which did reveal the deceased put the gun to her head and shot herself. The OCSO Forensic Lab responded to process the scene. The Oakland County Medical Examiner was notified and is responding to take custody of the deceased pending an autopsy. Investigation continues.

~Persistently feeling sad, lonely or “empty”
~Insomnia or excessive sleeping
~Social isolation and withdrawal
~Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
Risk Factors:
~Previous suicide attempt(s)
~Depression or other mental illness
~Substance use
~Family history of suicide
~Physical illness and /or chronic pain
