Central Business District (CBD) and CN Railroad property:
Royal Oak officers noted an increase in graffiti in the CBD and on CN Railroad property. Based on their observations, officers began checking the CBD and other areas for graffiti. Over the course of the past week, fifteen (15) Malicious Destruction of Property reports were initiated. In reviewing these reports, there does not appear to a pattern or intentional targeting of specific locations. Business owners are encouraged to report incidents of this nature to the police department. It is the business owners’ responsibility to have the graffiti removed as soon as possible. This is important because the presence of graffiti encourages others to mimic the activity.
Other Incidents
1800 W. Fourteen Mile (Penn’s Thai Kitchen), 1-27-14, 5:09 p.m.:
Complainant reported an unknown suspect called the business posing as a DTE Energy representative. The suspect told the complainant the business was behind on their electric bill and the power would be disconnected within an hour if the bill was not paid. The suspect instructed the complainant to purchase a pre-paid credit card with the amount needed to bring the account up-to-date and arrangements would be made to transfer the money.
The complainant was suspicious and contacted DTE Energy. A DTE representative verified the account was current and no one from their company called her. This is a recent scam suspects are using to steal money from local businesses. Any business owner receiving a call of this nature should report it to the police department immediately. As a reminder, do not provide any account information or personal information to a caller in these instances and note any contact information provided by the suspect caller. 14-3059
