After over 50 years in Hazel Park, Nick’s Pizza has expanded and opened a Ferndale location at 745 E. 9 Mile.  Now nestled in the same plaza as Apple Fritter, Christine’s Cuisine and the Ferndale Career Center, owners Michael and Karen Lambrecht hope their business will be able to grow roots there.
The Lambrecht’s make their own pizza dough and grinder bread from scratch, and use quality ingredients to make their gallowaycollens1pizza, subs, bread sticks and grinders memorable. Nick’s first opened in 1962, and Michael has been the owner since 1971.
“We opened this location because we’re not sure what’s going to happen in Hazel Park.  The landlord told us that Kroger is looking to expand and buy the entire plaza and we haven’t been able to renew our lease. We can stay month to month for now, but it seems likely that we’ll have to leave.  So this is our way of getting a new location established close enough that we can still serve our Ferndale sidebar016growand Hazel Park customers,” Michael said.
Nick’s Pizza joined the Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce in hopes of letting the community know they are here.  On Jan. 9 they held a ribbon cutting ceremony, complete with a lobby full of supporters and a buffet of pizza, breadstick and grinder samples.
The location has been home to several pizza places, including Dan Good Pizza, Dolly’s, Salvador Scampini’s, and Pizza One.
