Grant Funds Purchase Large Print Books at Berkley Public LibraryStreet-Eatzz-Ad

The City of Berkley successfully secured Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for use throughout the City for designated projects.  A portion of the money from the grant was allocated to purchase new large print books for the Berkley Public Library’s collection.

“The City of Berkley receives about $40,000 per year from the federal government.  This money can be used to benefit low and moderate income, senior citizens as well as disabled persons.  The last time the City ctechadutilized this money for large print books was in 2002,” said Amy Vansen, City Planner.

In the 2013 grant year, $9,173 was awarded to the library.  Funds will be used over a three year period to purchase large print books.

“Our large print collection will be greatly enhanced by the infusion from this grant.  As the community ages, large print collections are becoming increasingly important.  Berkley’s senior and low vision residents will benefit from a wider selection and a regular flow of new materials,” said Matt Church, library director.

New large print titles are available for check out at the library and can be checked out for a three week period.  Patrons are encouraged to check back regularly for new titles.

The Berkley Public Library is located at 3155 Coolidge Highway in Berkley.  For additional information, call 248-658-3440 or visit www.berkley.lib.mi.us.
