Couple Looking for Ring Lost in Royal Oak, Reward OfferedJudyPalmer01
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 1, 2014)

A Royal Oak couple is offering a reward for return of a very special ring that was lost in December.

“The ring is a family heirloom, it’s an art deco style ring from the 1920s and belonged to my great grandmother, then DDAsample01my aunt, now my fiancée,” said Danny Hicks.  ‘It has two small squares in the center of a kite shape, with 4 small diamonds at each point of the kite. The two center squares appear incredibly dark, they look like onyx or some other really cheap stone, however when held up to the light they are actually just very deep blue sapphires. The band is 18kt white gold, and has worn engraving on the outside of it. This ring is almost certainly one of a kind at this point, when it was appraised the gemologist was impressed by its brilliance and uniqueness. Through all of our looking at potential replacements from the same time period, we have yet to see one even slightly resemble this style. The attached picture is a little blurry, DENGATE _Fern115_Adhowever it does capture the gist of it. It anyone sees a ring that looks like this, then it is almost definitely our ring.”

Hicks described his fiancée’s actions on the day the ring came up missing, “She went to the Royal Oak Public Library, picked up some books and walked back to her car. She drove to the Hollywood market on Main Street, north of 11 mile, and picked up a 12 pack of Diet Coke. She had walked straight to the pop, then to the register, and then walked back to her car. She drove home to 12 and Crooks, and she noticed it was missing about an hour after returning home. We have gone back to each location several times, have called them even more, and have even been asking the ROPD if anyone has turned it in or sold one like it to a local shop. We have looked everywhere imaginable in the house, but still have no luck.”
Hicks said that his fiancée is “devastated” at the loss.  There is a $500 reward for the ring.
