Metaliclaus Given Key to City at Tree Lighting Ceremony (video)
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Nov. 23, 2013)
With an denim vest, rock star glasses, black beard and howling headbanger voice, Metaliclaus has endeared himself to the Ferndale community by becoming a part of the holiday tradition. On Saturday night the big guy joined city officials and the Downtown Development Authority in the median of Woodward to help with the annual tree lighting ceremony. After signing his own kind of carol – a mix of a Hawaiian jingle and “Fat Bottom Girls,” – Metaliclaus graciously accepted the Metaliclaus key to the city from Mayor Dave Coulter. Several young guests joined city officials at the front of the crowd to count down to the moment when the giant evergreen was lit. With beautiful blue lights and a white star on top, the tree will serve as a beacon for those coming to shop locally and party joyously in Downtown Ferndale.
On December 7 Metaliclaus will make his next Ferndale appearance, at Detroit Comics from noon to 5pm. There he will help raise money for Children’s Hospital Foundation of Michigan by taking donations and letting folks sit in his lap. There will also be prizes, Jameson Ice Cream, Gummy Super Soldiers, Ukelele sing-alongs, metal and soul Christmas music and “plenty of attitude.” Find out more at https://www.facebook.com/events/234082136755054.
