A Super Saturday in Downtown Ferndale
(Ferndale DDA, Nov. 18, 2013)
Downtown Ferndale will be jamming this Saturday, November 23 with its first annual Holiday Hoof Obstacle Run, One-Eyed Betty’s FestivALE and its annual traditionally non-traditional Woodward Avenue Tree Lighting. With three great events and 300+ businesses ready for the holidays, it will definitely be a Super Saturday of celebrating!.
- Holiday Hoof is a 4+ Mile Obstacle Run and 2 Mile Fun Walk featuring 13 holiday-themed obstacles including Santa’s Rooftop, Yule Log Jump, Jingle Balls and much more. Special prizes for best time, best team, most team spirit and best lit will reward the light-hearted competition of the event. Participants are encouraged to illuminate themselves in holiday fashion, dress warm and run fast. Obstacle run registration of $60 includes two passes to FestivALE, jingle wristlet and day glow necklace. Fun Walk entry of $20 includes one FestivALE pass, jingle wristlet and necklace. Day of registration and packet pick up begins at 12 noon on Troy Street, directly behind the Ferndale DDA offices at 149 W. Nine Mile Rd. The race goes off at 5:30 pm.
- One Eyed Betty’s FestivALE is Betty’s kick off to the holiday season in true Betty fashion. Seven bands, a Short’s tap take over, a huge array of kraft beers, cold weather comfort food, 30+ pinball machines and an amazing good time await FestivALE goers. Tickets at $20 each are available at the door. Festivities take place in a heated tent, adjacent to the Betty’s on West Troy Street.
- Woodward Avenue Tree Lighting features Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter presenting the key to the city to Metalliclaus, the funky and ever mellow Clauslike character who strums up holiday cheer on the strings of his ukulele. The lights go on at 7:30 pm, followed by the awards ceremony for the winning Holiday Hoofers at 8 pm.
