Highland Twp. Man Shot in Face, Alcohol Apparent Factor

INCIDENT: 19:08 hrs. – Highland Township- Shooting / OCSO Forensic Lab Assist #13-176023
SUMMARY: Deputies along with the Highland Twp. Fire Department were dispatched via 911 to an address in the 4700 block of Hickory for a gunshot wound to the face. Information was the victim was accidentally shot by a friend. Responsible subsequently fled the scene on foot to the Highland Hills Golf Course armed with the weapon a 9MM handgun after making suicidal statements that his life was now over and “I’m gonna kill myself”. A perimeter was established by Deputies from Highland, Commerce, and the Alcohol Enforcement Unit. Deputy White and his K9 responded. A track was established but was later lost. The suspect later returned to the residence and turned himself into the deputies at the scene.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: OCSO Highland Twp. Substation Sergeant Snyder advised and responded to the scene along with both Highland Detectives. The OCSO Forensic Lab was requested and also responded to process the scene. Victim was transported to McLaren Oakland in Pontiac by Highland Twp. FD. The victim was transferred to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital where he remains in stable condition with wounds to his face. The responsible was arrested and taken to the Highland Sub. He told detectives he disposed of the gun somewhere on the golf course. A search by Deputies for the gun proved negative. A second search will take place in daylight hours. Alcohol consumption appears to have been factor in this incident that appears to be accidental at this time. Investigation continues.

(Victim): 36 year old resident of Highland Twp.
