Ferndale Schools Remind Kids to be SafeJudyPalmer01

(C. Proxmire, Nov. 1, 2013)

Ferndale Schools issued a reminder on Facebook for parents and students to be safe when walking to and from school after a student was approached by a stranger.  Here’s what their update had to say:

“A note to remind parents and students to be safe and vigilant while walking to and from school. Tell the kids: If you see anything unusual, tell an adult right away. If someone approaches you, go to the nearest safe place, house, or back to school right away and then report the incident to the police. Don’t hesitate to call for help.

Yesterday, about 4 pm, a student was walking home north on Pinecrest and stopped to send a text message. A dave coulter campaign adman who was also walking north stopped to talk to her briefly, including asking for her phone number. She immediately walked away to a friend’s house until her parent could pick her up. The man continued walking north on Pinecrest.

The man’s description is: 5’7″-5’8″ tall, wearing a black hat, big brown coat and black jacket, and dark blue jeans. He is African-American with a light complexion.

If you have information that could help the police locate this man, please report to the Ferndale Police at 248-541-3650.”

Earlier this year a man tried to lure a student into a car, and warnings were issued then as well.  Read about that at http://oaklandcounty115.com/2013/09/18/stranger-danger-man-tries-to-lure-student-into-car-on-pinecrest/.
