Pot Talks: Events on Both Sides of Marijuana Issuemoderntax

(Crystal Proxmire, Oct. 5, 2013)

Ferndale voters will have the chance to weigh in on the issue of marijuana decriminalization on Nov. 5 with the vote on Proposal A.  Proponents on both sides hope to sway voters with upcoming events.

On Sunday, October  6, Andrew Cissell will be hosting a “Political Rally” at Geary Park in Ferndale at 6pm.  Cissell turned in petitions to get a marijuana decriminalization ordinance on the ballot, and has since been charged by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s LindaPartonAdFerndale115office with several drug charges related to marijuana.  Out on bail, Cissell hopes to build support for the marijuana issue, as well as to promote his campaign for State Representative.

“The point of the rally is to bring everyone together. It will serve as a launching pad for further action. I want to grab people’s attention and begin to organize the community. There won’t be fireworks or a parade, but I will give a speech and let the attendance know we need to come together in order to take our government back,” Cissell said.

Information on the rally can be found at https://www.facebook.com/events/1415620371998937.

Opposing marijuana decriminalization is the Oakland County Health Division Office of Substance Abuse Service and the Oakland County Intermediate School District, who are bringing in international drug policy expert Kevin Sabet to share his view on marijuana.  Sabet has served as a Senior Advisor of Policy in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy under both Presidents George W. Bush and Barrack Obama.Fido Does Ferndale dda Ad 2013

The event “The Truth and Consequences of Marijuana and Youth” will take place Thursday, Oct. 10 from 5:30-8:30pm at Oakland Intermediate School District, 2111 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford.  A flier for the event lists the “why” as “to gain knowledge about the issues surrounding marijuana legalization and its impact on youth and the community.”
