Ferndale Police Report: Six Arrests and One Broken Leg After Fights at DLCdinos02sidelogo3

On 09/19/13, a total of six students were arrested at Taft Digital Learning Center for fighting with other students, school staff, and police officers. The school Administrative Staff member suffered a broken lower leg due to an assault by a student. Five students were arrested from an incident that began at 11:50 a.m. and one student was arrested for an unrelated fight that occurred at 3:35 p.m..

130008957: Five arrested, Administrative Staff member Injured:

On 09/19/13 at about 11:50 a.m. a fight broke out in the cafeteria/gym of the school. The initial fight was between two female students (one 19 yrs. the other 15 yrs.) The Administrative Staff member was in the area and tried to break up the fight. While doing so, he was attacked by the 15 year old. During the assault, she punched at the Administrative Staff member and stomped on his lower leg, causing it to break.

Additional fighting occurred stemming from the original fight which resulted in three additional students (two adults and one juvenile) being arrested on resisting and obstructing the police charges.

The juvenile students were taken into custody and turned over to their parents. Charges on the juveniles will be determined at a later date.

The adult students listed below will be arraigned on the following charges:

130008964 – Man arrested after fighting with staff:

On 09/19/13 at about 3:35 p.m. the School Resource observed two men fighting near the entrance of the Taft Digital Learning Center. The officer observed a school staff member try to break up the fight by removing one of the combatants (DUREN) from the fight. DUREN began to fight with the school staff member by punching at him. The School Resource Officer tried to stop DUREN from assaulting the employee and DUREN fought with fightsthe officer. Another officer arrived, and eventually the officers and the employee were able to handcuff the man and arrest him.

Duren is being held without bond arraignment on the charges of :

1)      Resisting and obstructing Police Officer (2 yr Cir. Ct. Misd)

2)      Assault & Battery (93 day misdemeanor)
