Vehicle Smashes through Basement Wall, Driver Still at Large
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept. 3, 2013)
No one was home late Monday night when an out-of-control car went up a shared driveway, hit a parked car, and then slammed through the wall of a home on W. Hazelhurst near Allen Street.
The accident left a large hole where cinder blocks had toppled into the house’s basement. According to a witness, the driver then fled the scene. The witness described the driver as a white female in her 20s or 30s who appeared to be intoxicated. The vehicle was said to be a gold-colored Buick Century or a similar model that now has quite a bit of damage to the front of it.
A relative of the family who came to oversee the repairs while the family was not in town, said that insurance will likely pay for the damage if the person suspect is not found. “I’m so glad it was still insured,” she said. “A lot of older people who have their homes paid off let their insurance go. But this shows you never know what can happen.”
A red vehicle in the shared driveway was also damaged by the gold car. Anyone with information can contact the Ferndale Police Department at (248) 541-3650.
